In the segment of full-size luxury SUVs, the Mercedes-Benz GLS stands among the best. Aside from its abundant accommodations, the GLS also offers some of the comfort and extravagant character in the U.S. automotive market. Here, we examine the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS so you can see how this third-generation line continues to hold its own against its competitors.
Like its midsize sibling, the GLE, the Mercedes-Benz GLS gets a couple of low-key updates to its styling, including updates to the grille, front bumper, and taillights. The interior steps into a fresh style as well, especially in terms of new color schemes and a touch-control steering wheel.
Both trims of the 2024 GLS have undergone upgrades as well. The base 450 now boasts a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that generates 375 hp, with a 0-to-60 acceleration time of 5.8 seconds. Meanwhile, the GLS 580 features a 4.0-liter biturbo V-8 that makes 510 hp, taking you from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS measures approximately 205 inches long, 71.8 inches tall, and 84.9 inches wide (including the side mirrors). Interiorly, it’s expansive. The standard configuration seats seven people across three rows. Legroom in the first and second rows measures 40.3 and 40.2 inches, respectively, and even the third row’s 34.6 inches can easily accommodate most adults.
As for cargo capacity, the GLS starts at 17.4 cubic feet behind the third row. Once you stow the second and third rows, it expands to 84.7 cubic feet, which can accommodate more than two dozen carry-on suitcases.
The key standard features of the 2024 GLS vary to some degree between the trims. The GLS 450’s features include but aren’t limited to:
The GLS 580 incorporates the above features and adds a few opulent touches, such as a leather interior, multi-contour front seats with a massage function, rapid front-seat heating, a heated steering wheel, and soft-close doors.
The 2024 GLS is tremendously well-appointed when it comes to safety and driver assistance. Here are just some of the standard features:
